I miss Tonkatsu!

Tonkatsu is a typical Japanglish word - ton is pig or pork, and katsu derives from the word cutlet.
Tonkatsu is breaded deep-fried pork. You don’t need special ingredients to make tonkatsu, so it’s easy for everyone to cook it at home.
One of the main ingredients for tonkatsu or any breaded deep-fried item in Japanese cooking is panko or dried bread crumbs.
And if there is one thing that I miss eating… is this from Tokyo Tokyo! promise myself that once I arrived home… I’ll be eating loads of this!!!
Tonkatsu Ingredients:
- 4 pcs. Cut pork loins (not too thick-cut)
- Breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper
- cooked Japanese rice
- all purpose flour or tempura batter
- Cooking oil for deep frying
- 1 cup cabbage julienned
- Tonkatsu sauce
How to make or cook Tonkatsu?
1. Season the pork with salt and pepper. Set Aside
2. In a separate bowl, mix the all purpose flour or tempura batter with water. Medium thick consistency. Set aside
3. In a separate large plate, prepare the bread crumbs (you can buy this at any Japanese grocery store or your local supermarkets.)
4. Coat the pork loin in the tempura mix/all purpose flour mix. Then coat liberally with bread crumbs, make sure it is coated on all side.
5. Meanwhile, heat the cooking oil. Deep fry the prepared Tonkatsu for 2-3 minutes.
6. Drain well on a paper towel or tempura paper
7. Serve in a bowl with rice or Bento, tonkatsu sauce on the side or on top garnish with cabbage.
